Meet the Challenger Urban:Creative Alumni – eGreen City

The winner of the 1st round of Challenger Urban: Creative – eGreen City (eZelené Mesto), is a project of CEELABS company, which has developed a unique solution for measuring and analyzing electricity consumption.

Thanks to participation in the acceleration program, which consisted of professional workshops as well as individual coaching and mentoring, the team not only improved its presentation skills but also made an important strategic decision and focused its attention on a new market segment – buildings within the city administration. According to the director Petr Feciľak, they did not take this segment into consideration before, as establishing a cooperation with the city is difficult for small companies and startups.

The result of their involvement in one of the innovative programs of the Košice 2.0 project – Challenger Urban: Creative is a project with the ambition of helping Košice to reduce the city’s carbon footprint through an analysis of the energy consumption of buildings in the city administration.

The project comes at a time when the EU, including Slovakia, has committed itself to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050. To meet this ambitious commitment, it is essential to find solutions for public buildings, which are the largest energy consumer in Europe. Achieving climate neutrality by 2050 will therefore not be possible without innovations such as eGreen City. The encouraging news for the team as well as the inhabitants of the city of Košice is that thanks to the intensive support and cooperation with the city, the technological solution from the eZelené workshop is already being successfully put into practice!

The first important milestone was the “Cooperation Agreement”, signed in early October 2021, on the basis of which an energy audit of the city administration’s buildings began. Another challenge was the initial analysis of the buildings of the Košice Football Arena thanks to the initiative of Deputy Mayor of Košice Marcel Gibóda.

The connection of the startup ecosystem with the city and its current challenges within the Košice 2.0 project thus provided a concrete example of the positive impact that the city’s cooperation with its inhabitants can have. At the same time, Košice has opened the door to an innovative solution that can inspire many other cities not only Slovakia.
